Stripping & Cleaning a VW Beetle using an abrasive disc

Using the abrasive, Dave effectively stripped the entire car of multiple layers of paint, rust and corrosion using only one disc. Significantly, Dave was also able to use the abrasive disc for another job because of its long life.

  • What can I remove?

    Almost any surface contaminate, from rust, corrosion, paint, scale, dirt, adhesive, residue and other unwanted layers.

  • Will it remove metal material or damage my component?

    It will remove and clean up weld spatter and burrs without gouging or damaging the underlying substrate. Although it could remove stock it’s not it primary function and may reduce the life of the disc.

  • Can I use it on Aluminium / fibre glass / brass?

    Yes, it’s composition is delicate enough to use on most substrates.

  • What speed should I use it at on an angle grinder?

    For best results use at a maximum of 12000 RPM.

Abrasive Disc Action: The Vortex Rapid Blend and a competitor were used in a controlled environment with medium pressure to prevent gouging or damaging components.

  • Will it remove metal or just give a finish?

    This disc is a 3 in 1 disc that can remove small weld joints while simultaneously blending and conditioning giving a great conditioned finish.

  • How long will it last?

    The unique Vortex grain can last up to 5 times longer than traditional surface conditioning discs, reducing process times.

  • Will it remove blueing or thermal damage?

    Yes and with ease if we say so ourselves.

  • What metal material does it work best on?

    Yes this product is perfect for use with a number of metal substrates particularly stainless steel , carbon steel and aluminium.

  • What speed should I use it at on an angle grinder?

    This discs are speed rated for fixed speed machines at 12000 RPM (MOS) however to achieve the best finish slow down the tool to 6000 RPM.

Norton Vortex Rapid Blend and Norton Rapid Blend

Recol engineering used the Vortex Rapid Blend and the Norton Rapid Blend to remove the Tig weld and thermal bluing. The stainless steel was also buffered and polished using the disc.

  • Will it give a mirror finish?

    No, it will give you a really fine finish and remove all minor defects but to achieve a mirror finish you will need to use a felt disc and polishing compound.

  • Will it finish stainless steel?

    Yes absolutely, use the blue vortex rapid blend disc as a first step, then use the grey rapid blend disc to remove the finest of defects, this will give you an excellent finish.

  • Can I use it on Aluminium / fibre glass / brass?

    Yes this product is perfect for use with a number of metal substrates particularly stainless steel, its silicon carbide construction make it perfect for brass and other soft materials.

  • What speed should I use it at on an angle grinder?

    This discs are speed rated for fixed speed machines at 12000RPM (MOS) however to achieve the best finish slow down the tool to 6000 RPM.
